This is Bad.

Iowa State faculty have admitted that the decision to deny Guillermo Gonzalez' tenure application was based partly on the fact that he supported Intelligent Design. Noting that an astronomer's "reputatation" was a factor and that by supporting ID, Gonzalez' reputation had been tarnished. This article comes from the Discovery Institute and I have not tracked down the World Magazine article yet.

The more I think about it, the more I believe that it would have been better for both the North and the South, had the South simply been allowed to establish your own country. We Californians have more in common with Western Europeans than we do with you folks in the "red" states.

  2. Can't agree. I am actually a red-stater. You might call me an "elightened republican." This is what hacks me off so much. People who otherwise have good theological constructs have bought into this creationism nonsense because they can't take the time to get the facts straight.

  3. I don't know if they need to take the time to get the facts straight; they just shouldn't speak or claim an opinion. My wife takes that route, since I am the one scientifically trained. She just doesn't feel it's important that she has an opinion on origins, save for gracious acknowledgement toward the Creator for life in all its diversity that exists by whatever means he intended. I claim to be a theistic evolutionist, but I always hurry to add that my 'belief' in evolution is not the same as my belief in the Messiah. The word belief is here used in two very different ways.
